Frequently Asked Questions

The therapy experience is unique for each individual.  We do our best to cater to every family's unique needs. You are always welcome to discuss your concerns with your therapist directly.

Do you work with children of Divorce?

Although many children experience divorce, this is not always a source of "trauma".  We work with co-parents who have good communication, parenting plans, and visitation in place; please note we require consent for treatment from both legal guardians or the primary medical guardian.  We do not intervene with financial disputes between parents and will not mediate treatment info between two parents; it is the caregivers responsibility to relay treatment communication outside of sessions.

Our practice does not work with clients experiencing high conflict divorce or high conflict co-parenting.

How involved are parents in pediatric therapy?

Cone Psychology provides parent check in sessions for pediatric patients 12 and under.  These sessions are offered to the parents to process concerns at home, goals, and progress throughout treatment. Your child's therapist is not able to share what the patient shares in session, however we do provide at home recommendations and guidance for progress. Every client will have an individualized approach, your therapist can answer your questions directly.

Is the confidentiality the same with pediatric sessions?

Pediatric sessions are honored with the same confidentiality as adult sessions with the exception of safety concerns and feedback in parent sessions regarding goals.  Parents will typically receive recommendations for at home interventions. We do not provide pediatric telehealth sessions to children while they are in the school building to honor their confidentiality, ensure quality care, and promote patient progress. We do not meet with school staff regarding your child's treatment, but may provide documentation as needed for IEP, 504, etc.

Adult sessions are strictly confidential and we do not incorporate parents into sessions for adults 18 and over. as we provide individual therapy only.  For those wanting to incorporate family members into adult sessions; we recommend family therapy.
